Refilling the creative tank

A reminder that creativity doesn’t live in your laptop

We were meant to go to Japan.

Savings, Pinterest boards - all lined up. But then the Ohana Festival lineup dropped.

Cage The Elephant and Green Day (hello bucket-list dream).

Add the promise of California sunshine, legendary surf, a conveniently timed airfare sale… and suddenly, our plans took a wild left turn.

California, here we come.

Funny things surprised me.

Simple things like the huge scale of the car hire depot, and dudes riding their bikes along Santa Monica beach singing at full volume.

We spent most of our time in San Clemente, 2 hours south of LA (on a good day - LA traffic is no joke). I loved the surf culture, sun-faded signs, and palm tree-lined-roads. It was something else.

Palm Springs was such a vibe! Endless inspiration and now I’m obsessed with mid-century design.

We didn’t plan on going but Joshua Tree National Park was an epic detour - like being on another planet.

Since coming home the spark is lit. My brain is buzzing, inspiration overflowing, and I’ve been screenshotting and adding to my notes like crazy.

Inspiration really does hide in the details - a field of orange pumpkins, a wave pool in the desert, stone and cactus gardens.

Travel just does something to you.
